WildCare Mobile App UX Design

The problem

When people in my community encounter lost or injured wildlife in their backyards or outdoors, they often don’t know how to respond.
Rescue organizations rely on timely reports from the public, but the lack of unified reporting channels delays rescue efforts, leaving animals in danger or distress.

The goal

To create a mobile app that helps people quickly and easily identify and report wildlife sightings. This solution aims to improve collaboration between the community and local rescue organizations.

Goals

The primary research goal was to uncover the challenges faced by the local community regarding wildlife encounters. Additionally, understanding the perspectives of rescue organization staff was crucial.

Findings

The research revealed the following pain points among community members and organization volunteers:

Lack of information

Residents often don't know how to assist wildlife found in their homes or outdoors.

Disorganised reports

Volunteers receive reports through various channels, leading to delays or missed opportunities to help.

Conservation

Many encounters result in animal deaths, negatively impacting local wildlife populations, especially endangered species. Organizations emphasized the need for community education and engagement.

Personas

Personas and User Journeys were created to represent the diversity of users and how a seamless experience could benefit them.

Wireframes

The main user flow was defined, along with the necessary elements and structures to ensure a smooth user experience.

Visual Design

Color played a key role in this project to signify different urgency levels and guide users toward appropriate actions. Feedback from usability studies was used to refine the structure and develop the graphic elements.

Prototype

The visual design was integrated into the wireframes, and screens were connected to create a functional prototype aligned with the desired flow.

Potential Impact

While this project focused on designing the reporting flow from a resident’s perspective, future iterations could include designing the report-receiving interface for volunteers and organizations. Scaling the design to encompass these additional perspectives would create a comprehensive tool for fostering collaboration and protecting local wildlife.

What I learned

This project was mainly about creating an app focused on social good, requiring extensive research to identify problems that design could address. It was a valuable experience that demonstrated how design can contribute to meaningful change.
